Inspiring new members
Recent months have seen several new members joining IAPRI, including PepsiCo as a prominent addition to the list of corporate members.
PepsiCo, with its packaging R&D team based in Valhalla, NY, USA, calls itself "an industry leader in packaging—helping to promote and implement standards for sustainable packaging". It is a member of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition.
Bringing a welcome Canadian perspective to the list of members, the Quebec-based Technological Institute for Packaging and Food Engineering (ITEGA) specialises in "eco-friendly", active and intelligent packaging.
ITEGA says it sought membership "in order to respond to specific market needs to find more environmentally responsible packaging solutions".
Meanwhile, adding to China's already strong membership, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, TUST (see photo) has joined in time for the 2010 IAPRI Conference in its home city (October 12-16). Founded in 1958 as an Institute of Light Industry, it has in recent years had particularly strong research links with UK partners.
From Turkey, the Tubitak Marmara Research Centre is an institute specialising in food processing and preservation, quality and yield improvements, formulation and microbiological safety. Contract-research projects are either privately or government-funded.
