Packaging Research Needs Young Scientists
Those of us who regularly recruit for mid-level and senior research positions tend to complain that the number and calibre of candidates is not as high as we'd like.
But how much effort do we really put into ensuring that our own sector encourages precisely those promising and motivated young scientists who may be sitting in that same interview chair in five or 10 years time?
It is vitally important to nurture talented young scientists from undergraduate level upwards. But how to make the case for packaging research, and compete with alternative career paths?
Here at IAPRI we have one big advantage: a network bringing together the foremost practitioners in our sector at a global level.
We can help to maintain and deepen our pool of specialist talent by making those beginning a scientific career aware just what opportunities are available around the world. Many IAPRI institutes have used informal links with other members to find overseas posts for their PhD and post-doctoral researchers. But surely it makes sense to formalise these bilateral links, pooling information in a single location.
We aim to make details about undergraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral opportunities easily accessible on the IAPRI website. Makes sense? Then please send current details for your institute to Marie Rushton (marierushton_iapri@another.com).
Remember, what goes around comes around—in the most positive sense!
