Imposing IAPRI Symposium lineup
This year's Symposiumin for IAPRI members, to be held in Greenville, South Carolina (May 17th-20th) promises to serve up presentations of a quality, volume and variety that are now becoming standard fare at IAPRI events.
Leading into the first full day of oral presentations, says host Clemson University, the keynote speech will set the tone for the Symposium, which is structured around the theme of 'Packaging Design for the 21st Century'. Says Bob Kimmel of the Department of Packaging Science: "Keynote speaker Jim George, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Shelf Impact, will focus his remarks on the theme of the event."
The Symposium, at the Westin Poinsett Hotel, will then proceed with parallel technical sessions under the headings of Sustainability and Supply Chain for the rest of the day. The second day (Tuesday) will start with parallel morning sessions on Food Packaging and Packaging Design, followed by afternoon trips to Clemson.
Morning sessions on the third day (Wednesday) will split between further Supply Chain papers and, in parallel, additional presentations on Packaging Design, as well as Current Issues. This will be followed by a midday membership meeting before lunch.
"By far the most submissions were in the Distribution/Supply Chain area," says Key Cooksey, co-ordinator for the Symposium's technical committee. Also revealing are trends within the Food Packaging stream. "In this category, the majority of papers were on antimicrobial techniques and active packaging. Some were on shelflife."
The geographical spread is equally impressive. There are presentations from Australia, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, UK and USA.
