The China National Export Commodities Packaging Research Institute (CEPI) was founded in 1974 approved by the former Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation. In 1978 authorized by the State Council, it strengthened and enlarged the scope, meanwhile, was approved to be the director member of World Packaging Organization (WPO) and Asian Packaging Federation (APF) on behalf of China.

At present, CEPI is responsible for the work of the secretariats of both China National Technical Committee of Standardization for Packaging and the Organizing Committee of Recommending Packaging Design for WorldStar.

Since its foundation, CEPI has played an important role in the development and technological innovation of national commodities packaging technology, as well as in the research of sustainable development of Packaging Industry. Its endeavors are fruitful. Meanwhile, it has recommended a lot of packaging design works for "WorldStar" and "AsiaStar" etc, and won the awards for many times.

Moreover, CEPI has a comprehensive packaging laboratory of complete apparatus and facilities, which has been operating as the packaging quality inspection center under Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation for import and exportcommodities, and is also open to the public as the packaging product quality approval laboratory for the State Administration for Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine.

CEPI aims to carry out research on packaging technology and promote development of packaging industry. And it focus the business on the researches on packaging technology & method, packaging standardization, packaging testing & experiment, environmental friendly packaging, project of guarantee for packaging quality and international technical cooperation and exchanges of packaging.
