The Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA) is a research center belonging to the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). [http://www.csic.es/]

IATA objectives are basic and oriented scientific research in the Food Science and Technology area. These objectives are supplemented with activities of technological support to the industry, and postgraduate and lifelong education.

The institute is organized in three departments (Food Preservation and Quality, Food Science and Food Biotechnology) each one of them with some thematic laboratories. The people workforce at IATA is about 200 (45 belonging to the scientific staff ,14 postdoctoral contracted scientists, 51 doctoral scholarship holders, 13 technicians, and the remainder technical and administrative personnel).

Work related with packaging is developed at the Packaging Laboratory of the Department of Food Preservation and Quality. Research areas include the study of packaging material/food product interactions and the development of new materials and technologies for food packaging.
