Operating at the meeting point between science and industry ever since it was founded in 1901, the Laboratoire National d'Essais offers its expertise to all parties concerned with the quality and safety of products : manufacturers, distributors, research bodies, local authorities, consumer organizations, insurance companies, and public services.

It functions as a public company with industrial and commercial status, under the aegis of the French Ministry of Industry.

LNE teams are deployed in four activity centres

• metrology and instrumentation
• materials, energy and environment
• qualification of products and equipment
• logistics and packaging.

As France's technical institute for packaging, LNE offers a comprehensive range of services : industrial studies and projects, advice and technical assistance, tests and analysis, conformity to regulations and specifications, certification and training.

LNE possesses the facilities to characterize packaging from all angles : mechanical and chemical safety, protection of contents, food compatibility, resistance to distribution stresses, convenience of use, ergonomics and impact on the environment. It studies all types of packaging, components and accessories.

In response to the demand for volontary certification, LNE issues different quality marks (LNE-Emballage for corrugated board, NF for food packaging or waste disposal receptacles … ).
